The Blood Glucose Goals You Should Pursue

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) provides guidelines for blood glucose goals for people with diabetes. Goals vary depending on when you’re checking your glucose:

• Fasting (before eating the first meal of the day) and before meals: 80–130 mg/dl (4.4–7.2 mmol/L)

• Postprandial (one to two hours after a meal): Less than 180 mg/dl (10.0 mmol/L)

(These guidelines are for non-pregnant adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Children, adolescents and pregnant women may have different goals.)

So don’t forget to track and monitor your blood sugar level regularly.
