Walking Benefits
How many steps should you take a day and why?
Walking seems boring but it does have health benefits to our body, including a reduced risk of:
heart disease and stroke
high blood pressure
diabetes
obesity
depression
certain cancers, including breast and colon cancer
According to a 2014 review, walking can help people with type 2 diabetes lower their blood sugar levels and lose weight.
But, how many steps should you take a day?
The best target is around 10,000 steps per day, which means approximately 5 miles. This number can help to reduce certain health conditions, like high blood pressure and heart disease, according to UC Davis.
Now 10,000 may sound a bit difficult, but anywhere between 7,500 to 9,999 steps per day is reasonable enough. These numbers should be based on your goal. So ask yourself what do you want to achieve first.
What is more important is that you are starting to walk more than you have been. So you don’t need to reach the exact numbers. So, come on, JUST WALK!
